The Elliot Barbier Little Prince Foundation was started in Memory of Elliot, who died tragically June 14th, 2008 in an accidental drowning. Our family feels blessed to have Elliot in our lives’, he brought tremendous joy into our lives and to many others. This foundation will strive to make a difference in the world everyday, in memory of Elliot through the following:
- Infant water survival techniques.
- Behavioral water safety education for the community.
- Donate “Lovies” to all infants born at local hospitals as a means of communicating The Little Prince Foundation’s mission.
- Working with health professionals in order to assist families experiencing grief from the loss of a child.
- Grants to Faith’s Lodge & organizations that promote family, children, & water safety.
- Classroom and community education on pool safety and the proper safety components of pools.
Through these programs, it is our mission to eliminate drowning as the number one cause of death in infants and children through education and infant water survival techniques.
2008 marked the first annual Little Prince Foundation Golf Tournament. As an initial stepping stone it was a great success. In a short amount of time the community came together with a tremendous outpouring of donations from local businesses and volunteers galore! We had sponsors at every hole and nearly more silent auction donations than golfers themselves. With fantastic weather and generous attendees, we were able to raise over $20,000. These funds are in the process of purchasing thousands of “LOVIES” which will mark the beginning of our journey in building water safety awareness. Each “LOVIE” will be tagged with water safety information and instructions on how & where to obtain infant self rescue training. The “Lovies” will be donated to hospitals and given to parents of newborns. It is our goal through building awareness and providing tools to parents, that we will someday remove accidental drowning from being the #1 cause of death for children 4 and under.
The 2009 Little Prince Foundation Golf Tournament is expected to be bigger and better than ever! The funds raised will allow LPF to certify instructors from our area, allowing us to further promote water safety education and infant survival techniques that will save lives.
